2020-2021 Season

To all Captains,

As you are aware, there has been some doubt as to whether a Winter League season could commence for 2020/2021.

It is with regret that I have to inform you that for the time being we will not be running a Winter League for this season.

Paul, Phil and myself have taken into account many factors in reaching this decision, these include:

• We have received feedback from several teams expressing concern for their players, many in the vulnerable age group. They have indicated that they would not be prepared to play in the current environment.

• We have been in touch with the majority of pubs and clubs over the past few weeks. From 12 contacted, two pubs/clubs have indicated that they would not be able to hold skittles under the current government guidelines. Two more are unsure as to whether they could meet the guidelines and another two have failed to respond. This would involve relocating 24 teams to other pubs/clubs which is considered to be unworkable. Unless we can get all pubs/clubs committed to providing a safe environment and meeting government guidelines, it is not possible to proceed.

I am aware that this decision may not be popular as I know there are many who feel that it is safe to play. However, it is not practical to run a full League programme without all teams and venues being confident that they are providing/playing in a safe environment that meets the current government guidelines.

If individual venues and teams want to arrange local leagues, then that is a decision for you to make. Regrettably it has not been possible to consult with you all for practical reasons, but hope that you respect a decision that had to be made between Paul, Phil and myself.

Should there be any changes in circumstances we will, of course, review the situation.

If you wish to discuss this with either Paul, Phil or myself, please e-mail or phone.

Chris Brace,

Secretary/Treasurer

Preparation for the 2020-2021 season

In preparation for next season, attached is a player registration form for you to complete and return to ourselves.

Please note that due to the current situation we are planning not to charge a registration fee.

If and when the season starts, any additional new players may be subject to a signing on fee.

We are not in a position to give a date for the season to start.

This is going to be subject to political decisions that will decide when pubs and clubs can re-open.

It will also be subject to the individual landlords as to whether or not they feel that their establishment is safe for the teams based on social distancing guidelines.

When your pub/club re-opens you should have discussions with your landlord regarding this.

It is also advisable to discuss with your team members whether or not they are comfortable playing when we get a start date.
Thought should also be given to your sticker upper, are they willing to participate and if so are there any special arrangements that would have to be made for them.
I hope that this gives you some understanding of what we are going to have to consider.

Please feel free to contact either of us with any views or comments.
When we prematurely closed the season early there were some very unhelpful comments placed on Social Media.

Some of our members obviously did not appreciate the serious nature of this pandemic.

If you or your team have any points to raise please do so directly with us.

Thank you.

2020 / 2021 season: Team registration

Teams wishing to take part in the 2020 / 2021 season can now register.

The League is discouraging captains from manually filling in and posting registration forms this year.

Instead, teams should register by completing the registration form and emailing to Phil: exton59@aol.com . If you do not have access to email, please phone Phil on 07912 346612 to provide the required information over a call.

The deadline for existing teams to register for the 2020 / 2021 season is May 9th.

New teams wishing the join the league must contact Phil on the above email / phone number by May 1st.

Cancellation of the Skittles League Season 2019/2020

Sadly the league officers have spoken with each other and decided to end the season as of today (Sunday) due to the ongoing COVID-19 problems. We felt it would be unfair to ask teams to travel around especially as a large number of players are in the at risk category.

All league, cup and end of season games will no longer be played and all monies paid for the latter will be offset towards next season's subscriptions should we be able to start the next season on time.

Unfortunately this means that there will be no promotion or relegation this year, which we know is upsetting to those who have already done enough to gain promotion, but felt that this is the fairest option open to us.

Again may we express are sadness for having to take this action, but hope you will all understand the reasoning behind it.
